Hope For The Future of Publishing?

In this year's Digital Conference, we have two sessions I want to tell you about that directly pertain to my hope for the future of publishing.

(Actually, I think the whole conference is about hope for the future of publishing, but there are two sessions in particular I want to tell you about.)

The first is: Phases and Action Steps for Your Author Business.

In this talk, specifically, I'm going to talk about the four phases of an author business, and what action steps to take in each one (and which skills are the most important in each phase). This will be in the second day of the conference (this Friday), and I think this has the ability to be the most beneficial talk for some of us because it's the pathway to sustainability.

We're going to discuss how to read growth metrics and how to know when you've moved from one phase to another, and what to do in each phase to get to the next phase. (i.e. what's the most important metric to watch to move from phase to phase)

Additionally, I'm either going to do a follow-up to this about how to handle when businesses start to collapse, or how to handle business transition. And again, the focus is going to be on action points. The goal is to give you some really specific things to do, after the conference is over, to start moving from phase to phase.

The second is (in the "just do this" section): Just Run Ads And Market Your Book.

Krystal, our marketing manager, is going to talk about the most common mistakes she sees happening in platforms that don't sell or aren't working. And she'll do a presentation with me about them, in addition to staying present for the Q&A which will follow that session. This presentation will be on our "follow up" day, which is May 24, and will be the first of our "just do this" presentations about things we're told to "just" do in our author career. But why can't we "just" do them?

The goal is to provide some guidance about what might be missing in your skill chains (or baseline skills) and how to close those gaps.

Presentations run 9-5 Central time on all three days, and then additional Q&A times not on presentations days for the UK/EU/NZ/AU/Asia attendees.

Our sessions, as they were last year, will be more like presentations and less like live discussions (I won't be responding to questions in the chat as I present), so the Q&A segments of the day will be very important. We're considering running them on a private YouTube channel (for multiple reasons, including ease of recordings and CCs), just to keep everyone focused on the topics. This is going to be high content delivery, so I want everyone to be prepared for that.

All sessions are recorded, and Q&A sessions will be included for both the UK/EU time zones and the AUS/NZ/Asia time zones, so the ones you miss, you'll be able to collect questions and ask them during those Q&A sessions. And those of you who want to watch the recordings on 2X... we want to include you as well. :)

We hope you will join us. In order to keep the cost down this year, we're not doing any mailings, which always makes me sad because I know people love that, but I want to focus more on the content delivery.

Register today.

I hope you'll enjoy it and find it useful.

Coming soon... Dear Writer, You Still Need to Quit, the Kickstarter. During the pre-launch phase (before October 20th), I'll release the elements of the campaign (we're going to have a collectible, some early-bird tiers, a digital deck, and the option to claim spots at pop-up events in a special way). And also, during the campaign (between October 20 and November 20), we'll have a podcast tour, where you can win stuff just for showing up. More info coming soon. For now, join us by following...

Since nearly all the Kickstarter fulfillment has taken place (for the card decks... the overwhelm book will be on its way sometime this spring), I'm finally getting a breath. Once we see how the decks are getting used, we can finally do those Live Calls and then the whole project will be fully done. I'm also getting ready to do a pretty aggressive slate of travel in the next eight weeks, starting just after Easter. In addition to private events, I will be at the Idaho Writer's Guild, Florida...

If you've heard me speak recently (or attended the Topical Calls on the Patreon), you've heard me tease this, but here's the promised "full" announcement. I'm making some changes to the trajectory of my career (especially in an effort to be more sustainable), and I've announced this on the Patreon as well (which is where the recording of the Topical Call below will be). So here's the link to that post if you want to bookmark it. COURSE LIBRARY We are making an “Author4Life” course library...
